Three prints laid out on the press bed — haunting figures with wings, angular shadows, and expressive line work. Printed at Hoof Print Chicago with Liz Borne and Gabe Hoar during a printing retreat in Wisconsin. Two faces meet at the center of the sheet — one above, one below, mirroring each other across a luminous white axis. The upper figure emerges from a field of dark, gestural brushstrokes; the lower answers in kind. They are the same face and different faces: Ricardo and his grandmother, separated by time and generation, joined in the act of looking. The monoprint process — ink pulled once from the plate, unrepeatable — makes the image itself an act of transformation. What is printed cannot be printed again. What is remembered cannot be remembered the same way twice. — Ricardo Santos Hernández
